is larger in area than Monaco and Vatican City.
UBC's Faculty of Graduate Studies

Noteworthy Accomplishments
Leading U.S. software researcher Gregor Kiczales was recruited to UBC to work in a breakthrough area of programming languages and software engineering. A new Software Practices Lab will also be created to develop practical techniques to make
real-world software development
easier and more productive.
UBC launched an extensive, multi-year academic plan, which will greatly enhance the university's teaching
and research environment. The plan identifies goals and priorities in
five key areas: retention and renewal
of faculty and staff; the student
learning environment; extension
of research excellence; strengthening links with the community; and
effective governance.
UBC is actively involved in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and hosted the association's annual conference in Vancouver in June 2000.
