New Research Funding
UBC will establish 160 new research chairs valued at $120 million over five years with funding from the federal
government's Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program. UBC has been
allocated funding for 29 chairs valued
at $4.4 million for 2000.
UBC and its affiliated teaching hospitals have gained more than $68 million in research infrastructure funding -- the largest amount awarded to any Canadian institution -- from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) in a recent competition. Projects ranging from the restoration of global fisheries
to the working relationship between humans and computers are some of
the 20 projects funded.
