Green College hosts lecture by President Toope

Prof. Stephen Toope, UBC President and Vice-Chancellor, will give a lecture entitled How International Norms are Maintained, Built and Destroyed: The Case of Torture. This Green College event will inaugurate the College’s academic programming for the 2009/2010 academic year.

UBC scientist garners award for research and community contributions

UBC students and alumni of the UBC Film Production Program have been awarded The British Columbia Film Foundation’s Daryl Duke Scholarships. Alumnus and former president of the UBC Film Production Alumni Association, Amy Belling, and current joint MFA student in Film Pro¬duction and Creative Writing, Michael Parker, have received the two annual $10,000 scholarships.

Belling (BFA 2003) is an award-winning producer and director of photography. Her production credits in-clude short films Why The Anderson Children Didn’t Come to Dinner (2003), The Saddest Boy in the World (2006) and the Genie-nominated short Regarding Sarah (2006), as well as the feature film Mount Pleasant (2006). Amy is currently completing her Master’s of Fine Arts in Cinematography at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

Parker is an award-winning writer, director and producer. His production company, Holiday Pictures, has produced feature and documentary films including the acclaimed films Paper Moon Affair (2005) and Lunch With Charles (2001).
