UBC Professor wins 3M national teaching award

Faculty of Dentistry's Clinical Prof. Leandra Best is this year's recipient of the 3M ESPE-ACFD National Dentistry Teaching award. The Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry and the Dentistry Canada Fund give this award to a faculty member who has displayed the qualities of an outstanding teacher and shown interest in and enthusiasm for the learning needs of students.

UBC students take grand prize

Sauder School of Business students Dave Rusli, Sherry Chen, John Young and Yulichia Ong share the $20,000 grand prize of the first Royal Bank of Canada’s Next Great Innovator Challenge. University and college students across Canada were asked to answer the question: “How will today’s teens influence the financial services industry of tomorrow?” Submitted ideas included suggestions around personalizing the banking experience, rewards programs, education, branding and the use of technology.

Students take on designing for disaster

Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and Forintek, the wood products research institute housed at UBC, present Designing for Disaster – An Expo of Innovative Relief Housing on April 16. Students from Emily Carr and UBC will showcase 400-square foot prefabricated living shelters able to be assembled or disassembled with basic tools. Presentations will be heard from participating students and representatives from Habitat for Humanity Vancouver, Emily Carr and Forintek.
