One UBC Family: Three Order of Canada Appointments
On February 8, 2005, Michael P. Robinson became the third
member of his family to receive an appointment to the Order
of Canada, in recognition of his efforts to build strong partnerships
with Aboriginal peoples.
A graduate of UBC’s Faculty of Law (class of ’78),
he joins uncle Basil Robinson (class of ’50, and a 1994
inductee into UBC’s Sports Hall of Fame) who was appointed
in 1991 for his work as a Canadian diplomat, and father Dr.
Geoffrey Robinson, appointed in 2001. UBC Pediatrics Prof.
Emeritus Geoffrey Robinson was instrumental in establishing
provincial programs for children with hearing disorders, visual
impairments and other disabilities. Both Michael and Basil
Robinson were also UBC Rhodes Scholars.
