Medal winners earn gold, silver

Gold medals, presented by the Governor General of Canada, are awarded to graduate students at UBC and other Canadian universities who have achieved the highest standing at both the master's and doctoral level. Students who are deemed the best in the graduating class for the BA and BSc degrees receive silver medals.

This year's recipients of the Governor General's Academic Medals are:

Governor General's Gold Medal (Head of the Graduating Classes in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Master's Programs): Jean-Francois Frigon; Governor-General's Gold Medal (Head of the Graduating Classes in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Doctoral Programs): Obiora Chinedu Okafor; Governor General's Silver Medal in Arts (Head of the Graduating Class in the Faculty of Arts, BA degree): Lisa Marie Brocklebank; Governor-General's Silver Medal in Science (Head of the Graduating Class in the Faculty of Science, BSc degree): Harley T. Kurata.
