Official Community Plan gets GVRD go-ahead

The Official Community Plan (OCP), which is a framework for long-term development on the UBC campus, gained fourth and final reading from the Greater Vancouver Regional District late last month.

The plan had earlier been ratified by the university's Board of Governors.

UBC and the GVRD have worked together for nearly three years, with public participation, to prepare the official community plan.

Acceptance of the OCP now allows local area plans to proceed.

Both the GVRD and the Board of Governors also conditionally approved terms of reference for a governance study for Electoral Area A (UBC and the Endowment Lands), which does not have a locally elected government.

A final approval of the terms of reference by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs is expected this fall.
