Computer Science Prof Helps Lead Online Collaboration
Project
Kellogg S. Booth, a UBC computer science professor, is one of 11
researchers at six universities across Canada who are collectively
receiving $4.5 million from the National Sciences and Engineering
Research Council (NSERC) to develop tools that support long-distance
collaboration using computers. One of their goals is to make on-line
methods of collaboration as productive, efficient and natural as
working face to face.
The universities involved include the University of British Columbia,
University of Calgary, Dalhousie University, Queens University,
University of Toronto and the University of Saskatchewan. Partners
from public and private sectors are contributing nearly $1.2 million
to the project along with expertise and resources to ensure the
research results are disseminated widely.
Booth is the associate director of The Network for Effective Collaboration
Technologies (NECTAR), the related NSERC research network that launched
October 12th. For more information on NECTAR visit: www.nectar-research.net.
