UBC debate teams take top spots at national championships
UBC students faced off against one another in the final round
of the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate (CUSID)
National Championship last weekend. Team UBC A -- Greg Allen and
Rahim Moloo -- and Team UBC B - Mike Kotrly and Kevin Massie took
the top two spots in the annual event, held at Dalhousie University
in Halifax. After two days of debating this final round Team UBC
A was awarded the win, on an 8-1 decision.
The distinction of having not only a winner, but two top finalist
teams, sets a new precedent for the UBC Debate Society. This follows
some strong performances earlier in the year at the World Championships
in Stellenbosch, South Africa and at the North American Championships
at John Hopkins University.
