Anne Martin-Matthews has been appointed scientific director
of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute
of Aging.
The appointment is effective for the term Jan. 1 to July
1, 2004.
Martin-Matthews joined UBC in 1998 and is a professor of
family studies in the School of Social Work and Family Studies.
Her research interests include families and aging, intergenerational
relationships, widowhood and health.
A fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, Martin-Matthews
most recently served as vice-chair of the advisory board of
the Institute of Aging.
One of CIHR's 13 institutes, the Institute of Aging is dedicated
to supporting research that promotes healthy aging. The institute
links researchers located in university, hospital and other
research centres across Canada.
CIHR is the Government of Canada's premier agency for health
research.
