Time Piece 1947

In the 1950s ‘cheese cake’ was frequently seen on the front pages of The Ubyssey. It regularly featured campus beauty queens and sorority chorus girls. The student paper referred to them as “girls”, “comely-co-eds”, “beauties” or “lovelies.”

During Mardi Gras, a sorority fundraiser, women were featured in a beauty contest and a variety show that included scantily clad sorority sisters. But don’t be fooled into thinking that it was all wide-open Dawson City. In 1959, a nursing student was suspended from classes after kissing her boyfriend on the hospital steps.
